Hi. Namaskar. How are you? Hope all are doing good and are safe. Here all of us are fine.
By Gods grace all of us are safe here. For kids online classes E learning has started.
Jan works from home. In our last video I had mentioned that school has started. What I meant was from home
Thats the news here. Today I am here with an easy snack that can be had any time.
You can have it as breakfast or lunch or dinner or snack too. Its an easy pakoda made of bread.
Pakodas are very easy to make. I have made some changes to it. I thought I had already shown this as video
Its when some began requesting for it I noticed that I had not shown the video for this recipe.
So here I am with the video recipe of Bread Pakoda. If you have this, it keeps you away from hunger.
Its a heavy food. Since its lock down, I have been showing simple recipes for the last many days.
Happy to know that many are liking it. Many of us are lucky that we dont have problems with food so far.
At the same time there are many people in other parts of the world who cannot go out to buy things to make food.
They are able to cook only with things they have with them at home. Thats why I am showing easy recipes.
I hope all of you will understand. So I will be showing easy recipes the coming days too.
So without any delay lets see how to make easy bread pakodas.
So lets begin to make our easy bread pakoda.
For that we first have to saute some ingredients.
North Indians usually dont saute anything. They cook potatoes and mix all together and make it.
But when I tried it that way I felt the raw taste more in front. I didnt like it so I am going to saute them.
If you dont want to saute it, you can just mix all of them together and do the rest.
I have cooked 2 big potatoes in a cooker for 2 whistles. I peeled the skin after it cooled down and mashed it.
I am saying the measurements of making using 2 big potatoes.
Lets add 2tbsp oil in a pan. You can use coconut oil or any other oil you want
Place the pan on medium flame and let it become hot. Once its hot add 1 onion finely chopped.
Add salt as needed. I didnt add salt to the potatoes while cooking it.
Next add 3 green chillies finely chopped. You can adjust the spice level according to the kids taste at home.
Saute this well. You dont have to wait for it to become a brown shape. Just stop once it fades.
You can add ginger and garlic now or its paste. But I am not adding them here. The onions have begun to fade.
Now the raw taste has gone. Lets reduce the flame and add the masala powders to it.
First I am adding 1/4tsp chilli powder. If you are using Kashmiri chilli powder, then add 1/2tsp of it.
Next add very little turmeric powder and little garam masala powder. If you like the taste of cumin pdr add it
If you dont like it then avoid it. I am adding 1/4tsp of cumin pdr here. Lets mix all these together
When making it in the North Indian style, they add chat masala. I am not adding. If you want you can add 1/2tsp
Next add 1/4tsp dry mango powder. This is to get a sour taste.
If you dont have dry mango powder, you can sprinkle little lemon juice or half of a very ripe tomato.
If you are adding the tomato, add it now itself. Since I added dry mango powder, I am not adding anything else.
If you dont want it sour, then dont add them. Saute till the raw taste goes and then add the mashed potatoes.
Now the raw smell of the masala has gone. Lets add very little boiled and cooled water to this.
We are doing this for the potatoes to mix well. Since we havent added tomatoes, the water content here is less
So I added little water. Now add the potatoes here and mix them all together.
Sprinkle some salt over this and mix well. Increase the flame to medium and cook this for 5mts.
The masala and potatoes should merge well. If you want you can add some coriander leaves to this.
I am not adding them here. Now its well mixed. Lets keep them aside to cool down and then do the rest.
Since its lock down I dont know if you would have coriander or mint leaves with you.
Actually you can make a green chutney and store. I have already shown how to make it.
I am not showing it again now. I shall post the link below and write the ingredients in the description box.
You can look at that and make. I am going to make green chutney now. By thn this will cool down.
By the time the masala cools down let me prepare a batter for this. We have to dip it in this and fry.
I have taken a bowl and added 1 cup besan powder to it. Besan powder is the best for pakodas.
If you dont have besan powder with you, you can make the same using aata or plain flour.
Since I have besan powder with me, I am using it here. I am adding 1/4 glass wheat flour to this now.
You can add aata or maida here. This is to get a nice consistency.
It helps to get rid of the punch taste of besan too. If you want it with just besan, you can avoid aata.
You can add 1tsp rice flour if you want it crispy. But I am adding only these two now.
Now add little salt to this and 1/4tsp chilli powder.
Adding little turmeric pdr. You can add little asafoetida pdr too. Here kids dont like it so I am not adding.
If you want you can add two pinches of asafoetida. Mix all these well and add water and make a batter.
Dont make it a very thick batter but it shouldnt be very loose too. I shall tell you how much I added.
Dont add lots in the beginning itself. Add half glass first and mix well. I have added totally 1 glass of water.
Lets see and add more if needed. Some add baking soda to this. But I dont think its needed.
This is now the correct consistency. I have poured 1 glass and 2tbsp of water to make this batter.
It should be loose like this. Taste it now and see if the salt and spice is correct.
Its spicy enough. That will do. Lets keep this aside.
Now our masala has cooled down well. I have taken 6 slices of bread here.
You can make 12 pakodas out of this. First take 2 slices of bread and spread some green chutney over 1 slice.
If you want you can apply it on both the slices. I am using tomato ketchup on 1 n green chutney on the other
Dont forget to check out the green chutney recipe. If you dont add its ok but tastier when added.
Now place the potato masala on top of it and flatten it.
Make sure it reaches all over the slice. Spread some ketchup on the other slice. Its optional, just for kids
If you want you can spread green chutney on both the slices or tomato ketchup on both slices. Do as you like
Since its lockdown, all may not have all the items. Close it and press it well. Lets make the rest the same way
Green chutney is slightly sour, spicy and has a special taste. If you dont want to fry, make it like this and have
You can have it as a sandwich. Some may not have oil to fry.
If you dont have any ingredient you can make with what you have and have as sandwich or pakoda.
Adjust according to the items you have at home. You dont have to cut the sides of the bread to make pakoda
Its very filling and you wont feel hungry for a long time. You can have as breakfast or lunch or dinner or anytime
You can have it as a 4pm snack too and give it to your kids also. Adjust the spice level for kids.
You can keep the potato mix in the fridge and make it anytime when needed if you have more.
You can keep the extra batter also in the fridge and make when you want.
If you want you can fry this as whole. But I am cutting it to half and then frying it.
You can make it 4 too. Its easier to fry it when its cut to 4 pieces.
Now lets cut this to 4. You can cut it as you like. There is no particular rule for this.
This makes small pakodas. Its easier to fry.
Lets pour oil to a pan and keep it to heat. Once the oil is medium hot lets dip the bread in the batter and fry
Dip each piece and immediately put them into the medium hot oil. Make sure all the sides are coated
Fry just 2 or 3 at a time. When you leave it for a long time, the bread will turn soggy too.
So dip and fry fast. Make sure to maintain medium heat for the oil.
I am frying the 4 cut pieces first. I shall show the 2 pieces cut in the next frying batch.
It doesnt make much of a difference but I feel this easier.
Fry this till it becomes golden brown in colour. We just have to wait for the besan flour to get cooked.
I have turned it over many times and made it nice golden in colour. Lets transfer this to a tissue paper or strainer.
If you fry it in the correct temperature, its sure that oil will not be absorbed at all.
Always be careful on that. Lets fry the rest the same way.
Be careful while dropping it into the hot oil. I burnt my hand sligtly when making this in the morning.
We may be careless at that moment. I have dipped my finger to the hot oil once.
I usually do all in my own measurements. But when showing you, it should be perfect.
So I always do it here and then repeat to show you. Be careful while using oil especially.
Now this is also ready. You can make all the same way or keep the extra ones and batter in the fridge.

Let me have a small piece now. You can have it this way or with the green chutney I made earlier.
Its awesome. You can adjust the spice level as you like. Its a heavy food too. Wont feel hungry for a long time.
